This allows plumbers, fitters & surveyors to work accident-free on the flat roof

Standing on flat roofs can be terrifying. However, every now and then you have to go to dizzying heights to carry out inspections, maintenance work or installations. In other cases, an acute emergency situation requires access to the roof.

In these situations, a flat roof fall protection system provides protection. It serves as a barrier to catch people in the event of missteps or falls and to protect them from serious falls.

Flat roof fall protection guards - how do you work safely on a flat roof?

Flat roofs are roofs with a pitch of less than 10 degrees. What sounds harmless in comparison to sloped roofs, still harbours numerous risks.

Flat roofs are mainly found at high buildings with a correspondingly large fall height. Falls from flat roofs are likely to be fatal. An strong draught and slippery floors oftenincrease the risk. Fall protection has already saved the lives of many people.

Depending on the height of the building, the regulations for the height of safety railings for flat roofs vary. The Technical Rules for Workplaces ASR A 2.1 deal with protection against falls and falling objects in detail. For example, the height of guardrails is defined as 1.0 metre up to a fall height of 12 metres and 1.1 metres above this.

Other relevant directives are the accident prevention regulation for construction work (DGUV regulation 38), DIN 795 (technical requirements for personal fall protection equipment - anchorage devices), DIN 4426 (basic principles for the maintenance of structural measures) or TRBS 2121 (technical rules for operational safety).

The regulation-jungle on the subject of fall protection is confusing. Ultimately, the individual risk assessment by the responsible company determines the type of flat roof fall protection guard to be installed. Flat roof fall protection guards - which roofs are Mauderer's flat roof fall protection guards suitable for?

MAUDERER flat roof fall protection systems are suitable for roof angles up to 10 degrees. The products are available from as little as €70 per metre and are also suitable for temporary or permanent usage on rescue and renovation routes.

The safety systems are impressively robust and durable, have a low weight and can be installed quickly. They can be flexibly attached to all surfaces and score with details like the parapet slip guard.

Which are the main types of fall protection?

Fall protection is mainly used on roofs. Yet guardrails provide physical safety when working façades or on higher platforms, e.g. above water.

Even though individual protection equipment is currently on the rise, guardrail systems (collective fall protections) are still considered the safest option. Solar installers, firefighters, plumbers and construction workers benefit from this maximum protection.

Flat roof fall protection systems from Mauderer do not need to be firmly anchored to the roof. They are self-supporting and can be installed without penetrating the roof. The big advantage: in case of doubt, several people can be protected with this type of system, whereas a cable system only protects one person at a time.
